I got such an overwhelming and positive response to my “Chest Face Challenge,” that I've dedicated a page on my Live Journal to all the iterations I've received.

As promised, I've been drawing and mailing original sketches of CHEST FACE on cardboard paper to everyone who participated (it almost feels like a fulltime job).
Here’s a brief video of half the drawings I did (beware innocent anatomy bits):
I talked to Tommy and Mike D on the Jacked Kirby podcast Episode 269: “Arnim Zola!” with Dean Haspiel
Here's the show description:
Dean Haspiel returns to the show to discuss his latest Kickstarter campaign (Chest Face!), and how it relates to this episode’s subject, the bizarre Captain America villain Arnim Zola! We’ll discuss the influence and impetus for Dino’s new work while also breaking down Zola’s introduction in Captain America issues 208 & 209 from 1977!

Self-publishing made me realize the aesthetics of what I'm striving for in my "deep cut" universe. "Deep cut" usually refers to a piece of music that is little known from a lengthy career. My "deep cut" comix are kinda like 45 RPM records. The kind of tunes you might find buried between electric funk from the 1980s and Prince bootlegs. But my “deep cuts” are also like the comix you discover in the dollar bins of a comix shop or used book store. A lost Charlton Comic. An off-beat Eternity Comic. Something you ignored or mocked when it first came out. Or never even heard of until now. Something undeniable.
I grew up hunting for slabs of paper gold. It was at See Hear in NYC or Quimby's in Chicago that I found hoards of mini-comix, zines, Raw, and Factsheet 5. It was at SoHo Zat, Forbidden Planet, and St. Mark's Comics that I discovered alternative and underground comix the likes of Chester Brown, Harvey Pekar, R. Crumb, Will Eisner, Art Spiegelman, Charles Burns, Dan Clowes, The Hernandez Brothers, Mary Fleener, Joe Matt, Seth, Julie Doucet, Peter Bagge, Roberta Gregory, David Greenberger, Chris Ware, Terry LaBan, Howard Chaykin, Bob Fingerman, and peers like Adrian Tomine, Renee French, Jessica Abel, Tom Hart, Jon Lewis, Sam Henderson, Dame Darcy, Ivan Brunetti, James Kochalka, Evan Dorkin, Joe Chiappetta, Anders Nilsen, Jordan Crane, Gabrielle Bell, Jason Little, Nick Bertozzi, and Josh Neufeld (to name a few).
These days, I've been scratching that alternative comix itch from seasoned outliers and new groundbreakers the likes of Mahdi Khene, Kirt Burdick, Nicholas Forker, Richard Fairgray, Dan Goldman, Jeffrey Burandt (with Blake Sims and Jason Goungor), Sean Von Gorman, Charlie McElvy, Vito Delsante, Whitney Matheson, Peter Rostovsky, Chris Miskiewicz, and Jonathan Baylis (to name a few). Some of their stuff you can find at indie-comix shows or online. Some of ‘em make their way into the comix shop. But a bunch of ‘em were Kickstarted and mailed to your home.
Speaking of Jonathan Baylis: I promised to pimp his current comix campaign, SO BUTTONS: Life & Death.
Here's what Jonathan had to say:
One life interpreted by many artists. Auto-bio comix! With my life, it’s full of coincidences and brushes with celebrities and comix folk since I’ve been in entertainment and comics for my whole career. But I was hoping for something a little more high stakes this issue. Don’t ask for high stakes, because you just might get it. My comic book dealer of 40 years passed away. And then… my mom. That’s this comic.

Okay — Party People! We only have one week left in my CHEST FACE Kickstarter. If y’all desire that digital copy of Keyhole Comics #7 (the 25th Anniversary of the two-man anthology by me and Josh Neufeld), we’re gonna need to bank that $12k stretch goal.
Tell your friends!
