I remember when I was in a better financial situation, I wanted my online profile picture done by David Aja (or by a wannabe since he refused commissions). It would be tempting if I could manipulate AI to “copy” his style, but I’m not that smart, but smart enough to side with the artists. Snuff the bots.
amen Dean. Fuck the robots. and shame on the people making AI art the hot topic. How about posting about art made by humans that are capable of.....sincerity? I am furious every time I see someone post " I am fairly satisfied with this poem a chat-bot wrote." I think people have truly lost their minds and AI art conversations are proof of how little actual artists matter to the average person.
Therein lies the rub. Most average people don't care how/where the fun stuff comes from. They just wanna play. We're all guilty of it. I, too, hardly ever do the homework. Which is why it's up to us to educate in hopes of curbing theft and fomenting a collective consciousness that HELPS living and breathing artists SUCCEED.
I educate and meet nothing but disdain and dismissal from these people preaching to me that AI is here and I need to accept it. I think they are taking some truly perverse pleasure in making actual artists less than what they already are.
Ouch. Well -- they're not wrong. AI art is here to stay no matter the outcry. I'm not smart enough -- nor do I have the time -- to properly protest. All we can do is make our art and find alternative ways to deliver it while surrendering to the fact that our digital footprint will be stolen from. As freelancers it's our job to perpetually innovate the best ways to be seen and heard. Thank YOU for championing right from wrong, Marco.
thanks Dean. I have been doing a complete "back to basics" approach. I freaking bought a Super8 camera, like I am a freshman at Purchase again. I think sticking to the formats that cannot remotely be aped by the robots is a sort of oasis. I think you doing something only in print is right in the same wheelhouse.
We have definitely hit a cultural tipping point, if TikTok is where artists get discovered (and quite honestly, nowhere else). Music, film, "actors" they all get discovered on TikTok and that is where the development money is, as well as most people's full and undivided attention.
There is no way to combat that, except to ignore it. Playing into the insanity is just a surrender to idiocy.
But hey, if vinyl records are coming back, maybe old school people like us who use pencils and pens and film cameras will find some audience while Rome crumbles.

Cheers, Brad!
