I would have loved to go to one of these classes as a kid.

How do you keep them off their phones, Dean?

Smart phones didn't exist when I was a kid! I might have to build a time machine so I can teach the art of comix (and then rule the world).

Ha!

Most of the cartooning workshops I've done with kids are with the under 13s who are not glued to their phones yet. I did one workshop at a youth club run by a friend. Never again. If older kids come, they have to WANT to draw comics.

I don't have much experience teaching kids. I prefer adults and/or impassioned artists who desire to learn. Who do the work. I'm no babysitter.

I like your take. I also like that we are different. I enjoy school visits with 8-12 year olds. Most of them haven't given up drawing yet. Often the ones who get the most from the visit/workshop are the ones who haven't done well in class before.

It takes a special kind of human being to teach kids. I don't know that I have that kind of patience. I appreciate the ones that gave me that time and space when I was a kid. Especially those who didn't think comix were a waste of time.

I got into comic strips from the age of six (given an old Peanuts collection). It would have blown my little brain if a cartoonist had visited any of the schools I attended.
